whoops

belated t3 again this week. i guess my mind has been elsewhere. this week i am thankful:

1. that it is friday! i am so in need of a break. hubby and i are going to the car show this weekend too which is always fun. i imagine this is the same car show that comes to the moscone center in san francisco the last two weeks of november and if it is then we'll have a good time. we always like looking at the new cars, spending our imaginary lottery winnings, and figuring out what would realistically fit our budget, lifestyle, and brian's long legs.

2. that i get to spend the entire weekend with my hubby. last sunday he had to work and while it was kind of nice to have a quiet day to sew and do whatever without him bothering me to get laundry or cleaning done, it was too quiet and i really prefer having him around.

3. that my favorite holiday is practically upon us! that would be thanksgiving. i love the lack of present pressure and all the delicious good food. i love spending the day in the kitchen with the women in my family, cooking and chatting and bugging each other and generally having a great time. to me thanksgiving is exactly what every holiday should be about: celebrating the good things in your life with the people you love and some darn good comfort food. we will likely be only four at my house this year and i love a big noisy table so you're invited. seriously. email me.

Good Evening Eireann,
I read your post on "A little Friday Gratitude" and then went directly to your two blogs and read all about you.
I do have an interesting story about my breast cancer so everyone tells me.
I'll start by saying I don't have a blog at this time but I'm working on it. My 7 year old grandson is helping me. LOL I will let you know as soon as it is up and running because I think others would benefit from hearing my story. I do have a web site at www.MissLilasTeaRoom.com. I no longer own the Tea Room but there are some fun pictures on the site.
To Begin:
I am a 61 year old mother of two beautiful daughters, Lisa and Carrie. They are both married and have 4 kids each.
I have been married for 35 years to the love of my life. I am more in love and giddy about him than the day we met. He is an awesome husband, wonderful father and a neat Pop-pop to his grans. As my 7 year old grandson Caleb, says, "Geese Nannie, you and Pop-pop have been married FOREVER, huh? "Well, no, Caleb it seems like only yesterday." Oh Oh, I shouldn't have gotten started on my grandkids, LOL
So 5 years ago I owned and operated a very successful Tea Room here in Atlanta, GA. One day while taking a shower I felt the dreaded lump. I went to my Doctor and she confirmed after doing a painful biopsy that it was stage 1 cancer. She wanted to do an immediate lumpectomy, followed by massive doses of Chemo. Well, after I came home and cried my eyes out and asked the usual questions, "Why now Lord? Why me?" I made the appointment for the lumpectomy. In the mean time my lovely, youngest daughter Carrie, at www.naturalmomstalkradio.com asked me to wait and see if we could find a more natural way so as to forego the chemo. She did extensive research on the subject and I started on a program of: no white sugar, no white flour, no corn syrup. All things natural and as organic as I could get. No meat. Which is the diet the Doctors put you on when they find out you have cancer. (Go figure) This wasn't much of a change for me as we have always eaten healthy in our home. I also took several handfuls of herbs from Sunrider.com several times a day. I also drank green tea until it was coming out of my ears. My doctor was less than happy with me during all this. She gave me 2 months to see if it worked although she said it never would. And then I either had to have the surgery and chemo or she would release me as a patient, AMA. Against Medical Advice. Now I'm not a fanatic on Doctors or anything like that, I just didn't want to have surgery or chemo. So over the two months I could feel the lump getting smaller and when I went to the Doctor again in two months, the lump and the cancer were completely gone.
I'm not saying this would work for everyone but it sure worked for me and I thank God everyday that my daughter had the wisdom to help me.
Well, Eireann, that is my story in a nutshell. I have related it many times at Breast Cancer clinics and benefits.
You can email me at lilahuggins@gmail.com if you would like to know more in depth information. And try out my daughters web site or blog site whatever it is, LOL She was interviewed on NBC, national television just last week. We were so proud and a clip of that interview is on her site. She also knows everything there is to know about babies, breastfeeding and the like. She amazes me.
I will keep up with your blog now that I know you.
Have a blessed Sunday.
