maybe not such a bad plant mommy after all
i've been noticing my roses lately, the ones i don't know how to manage and as of yet have not really learned. i know you're supposed to hack them back prune them down in the winter, but my understanding is there is a particular way to do it so they will grow back healthy and beautiful. heck if i know what that particular way is, i just hacked away with the loppers. not that i ever remember to water them either. and yet the bushes in the backyard are suddenly thriving - one in particular is suddenly covered with lovely white flowers. the ones in the front yard have shot out tons of new growth and it seems like overnight they have become covered with buds. pictures to follow in a day or so when they explode, photographic proof that apparently even i can grow a rose without knowing what i'm doing.

Lol I feel you on the not being able to grow plants thing. I call it my black thumb of death. Our roses this year survived a fungus that hit all the neighbors and when one person asked how we did it, I was all "um, by not watering them? Or pruning them? And by letting our dog rip off rosebuds when he was a puppy?"
Oh God I am terrible at keeping flowers alive! I usually stick to planting perennials, that way I don't really do anything except letting the rain hit them and maybe once or twice in the spring and summer I will get down and dirty by pulling out the weeds that surround them! Yeah, it's definitely not my specialty! ;)
I always feel like a superhero when my plants make it! I have the infamous black thumb too. I feel sorry for my plants, but right now I have a healthy African violet, and a couple other house plants that aren't complaining.
i feel kind of sorry for my plants too... but as my mother says, when they come in my house they choose whether they want to live or die. my pothos have chosen to live but apparently my peace lily has not yet decided. apparently the roses have chosen to live and thrive on neglect, like sarah's.
Okay, this is going to sound really really weird, but you totally made it into my dreams last night. Yesterday, I read your post about the childbirth class encouraging you to crawl around on your belly to babyproof the house. And last night, I dreamed that we were both trying to do this, but we couldn't slither or crawl, we had to roll around on the floor to get to the outlets and the like. And then you had your baby and the baby came out able to roll around too. It was kind of a frivolous dream, but there you have it. WEIRD.
Just read Sarah's comment. Started cracking up.
PS. Found your blog via Tabitha's.
PPS. Was attracted to this post because I'm a plant mommy too and getting weirder about it by the day. (For my birthday I received gardening shears, a giant floppy hat and gloves. I feel like Mrs. Doubtfire.
